Balanced diet


Balanced diet is the diet that gives our body nutrients. 

We have classes of food which are:carbohydrates,protein,fats and oils,mineral salt 

Carbohydrates are food that gives energy to the body. Eg.rice,Yam,bread,garri,potatoes.

Importance of carbohydrates are:

Carbohydrates help to walk,read,think,study and do other physical activity 

Brain needs glucose to function well and glucose is a carbohydrate.

It also helps in digestion of food 

PROTEIN 

Protein are food that gives nutrients to the body. Eg. Beans,meat,fish,egg,milk.

Importance of protein are:

It helps in growth and development 

It also builds and repair tissue.

It helps in healing wounds 

FATS AND OILS 

Fats and oils are nutrients for body to function well. Eg.palm oil,vegetable oil,butter,

Avocado,nut. 

Importance of fats and oils are:

It provides more energy than carbohydrates and protein 

They make the body warm 

They help to maintain smooth skin and healthy hair 

Sources of fats and oils are butter,meat fat,eggs,milk,palm oil,vegetable oil,coconut oil,groundnut oil,avocado. 

MINERAL SALT 

Mineral salt are nutrients that body needs in small amount of nutrients.E.g.milk,yoghurt.

Importance of mineral salt 

Calcium help in maintaining and building strong bones and teeth,blood clotting and muscle functioning 

Iron help to form haemoglobin which carries oxygen. 

HOW TO BALANCE OUR DIET 

Beans and rice with vegetables 

Yam and egg 

Bread and egg with fruit

Eba with okra and fish

Rice and stew with orange 

Beans and plantain 

Bread and tea with apple 

HEALTHY BREAKFAST 

Pap and akara

Bread and tea with egg

Cereal with milk and fruit 

Oat with milk and banana 

HEALTHY LUNCH 

Jollof rice with chicken and salad 

Porridge with vegetables 

Spaghetti with fish 

HEALTHY DINNER 

Eba and vegetable with fish 

Amala and ewedu with meat 

Semo with egusi and meat
